The Caribbean Equality Project (CEP) is a community-based organization founded in 2015 in response to anti-LGBTQ+ hate in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. We empower, advocate for, and represent Black and Brown, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, and queer Caribbean immigrants in New York City. Through public education, community organizing, and cultural programming, our work focuses on LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights, gender equity, racial justice, immigration and mental health services, and ending hate violence in the Caribbean diaspora. We aim to cultivate supportive and progressive Caribbean neighborhoods, free of violence, oppression, and discrimination. Our inclusive and intersectional approach celebrates and uplifts all members of the Caribbean diaspora, promoting justice, inclusivity, and equal opportunity. We act as a liaison to government agencies and elected officials to create an equitable society regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Since our launch in 2015, we have made significant strides in advancing Caribbean LGBTQ+ immigrant voices in NYC. Through street outreach, educational workshops, and pioneering programs, we build support networks and safe spaces, promote acceptance, reduce stigma, and eliminate all forms of discrimination. With the support of volunteers, community members, and allies, we continue to expand the scale and scope of our programs each year.
