The Asian American Writers’ Workshop (“the Workshop”) is dedicated to publishing and amplifying Asian American literary culture. We operate from a radically inclusive ethos that drives us every day to expand the definition of not only who is a writer but also who is Asian American.

We reach diverse Asian and Asian diasporic communities in New York City and beyond. Through our robust and diverse lineup of programming, we serve as a critical sanctuary space for writers, readers, and activists at all stages of their careers. Our fellowships provide material support and mentorship for the next generation of Asian American storytellers; we publish innovative and cutting edge work in our award-winning online magazine The Margins; we host one of the most active events series in the country, with over 50 public events each year featuring some of our community’s most prolific writers and artists; and we bring the power of the arts directly to the communities who need them most, placing teaching artists in underserved high schools and senior centers throughout New York City.

At the Workshop, the arts and social justice are inextricably linked. As one of the only national organizations cultivating and curating the next generation of Asian American storytellers, we work every day to mobilize a radically diverse community of writers and readers toward imagining a more just future.
